Angelika Kauffmann – The Big Unknown?

Anyone who thinks they know Angelika Kauffmann (1741-1807) – the most famous painter of her time – will hardly suspect that much of her work still lies hidden in secret. In fact, many works have never been exhibited to this day.

Is the most famous woman of Vorarlberg – one must ask oneself – really the big unknown? Since many years, the Angelika Kauffmann Research Project (AKRP) has been following in the footsteps of this prolific painter, draftsman and etcher. It takes a long breath to find the works, which are scattered all over the world and to record them in a critical catalog. Public and private institutes, especially Vorarlberg with the vorarlberg museum as well as ambitious Kauffmann connoisseurs and collectors in the country, ensure that the project does not run out of steam.
